Reporting to the General Manager we are looking for a Junior Safety Officer to support the oversight of all operations, staff, budgets, and contract miners of the Kleinzee mine.
The Junior Safety Officer’s purpose is performing a variety of routine and administrative, technical, and professional work in analysing and administering various components of the Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) Programs and reporting to the Mine Management and the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Ensure mining is conducted in accordance with the approved Mining Work Programme.
- Ensure mining is conducted in accordance with the approved Environmental Management Plan.
- Develops and maintains Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) policies, COP’s, SOP’s, and program in conjunction with the General Manager and Chief Safety Officer.
- Conducts frequent inspections at the site to assist Managers and Supervisors in Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) compliance.
- Assists with accidents or incidents investigations and take necessary corrective action to prevent future incidents. Communicate recommendations of findings to all concerned parties promptly.
- Ensure contract miners performance is monitored and meets required performance standards and targets.
- Identify potential risks and ensure processes are established to manage appropriately.
- Direct the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure adherence to mining standards, organisational standards, and legislative requirements in conjunction with the General Manager and Chief Safety Officer.
- Ensure implementation and adherence to Environmental management programmes and objectives.
- Prepare regular reports for the General Manager and Chief Safety Officer.
- Report non‐conformities and follow up on corrective and preventive actions.
Minimum Requirements (Qualification and skill):
- B Degree or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a Safety Officer or similar executive role in an alluvial diamond mining operation.
- Valid drivers’ license (EB/08).
